Room 205 – The Voices, 2011, installation

“Room 205 – The Voices” is a constructed sequence of two adjacent rooms: an array comprised of architecture, voices, object, text and images. The central wall of the left-hand room is inhabited by “Reconstructed Memories (Lariam B)” (2001-2005): a wall-displayed object that is divided into an open and a closed section. Through the broken glass on the right side of the work are revealed, as in an instantiation of trauma, a map centered upon Jerusalem, Goldstein’s city of residence, and a partial table of his solitary journeys on the African continent; at the upper right of the work appear the signs of a moon and passing clouds. Through a peephole in the center of the moon we see the remains of a candle that has dripped onto a matchbox. The open section of the object shows a silvered model of a mountain with a lizard. The mountain is pierced by four peepholes through which appear the face and segments of a primordial armadillo’s armor.
