The installation Transitionals depicts the phenomenon of tunnels in Gaza on the Egyptian border, giving a platform to a research based on evidence and reports as presented in the media in various contexts. Thus, by juxtaposing them together, the work underlines the dialogue formed between the social, spatial and political aspects that normally do not gain society’s attention.
The maps in the project present the names of Palestinian villages that were erased from the map, alongside photographs documenting the escape channel and contemporary everyday subterranean conduct. The work addresses the physical and mental attributes of a space created in response to political and historical events, a space that in every respect constitutes a life line for the population on its other side. The work disrupts the perspective and illustrates the crowding and mental blindness concerning what takes place bellow the surface. The wall is an incision that exposes an encounter of questions concerning time and space and their manifestations above and bellow the surface.
