The video piece Chic Point presents men’s fashion at IDF checkpoints. The featured items of clothing offer creative design solutions for men’s shirts that allow exposure of the user’s belly, back or chest by means of zippers, netting and buttons. A line of male models walk the runway, demonstrating potential ways to use the garments. The fashion show is juxtaposed with a series of photographs taken at military checkpoints, where the photographed subjects – Palestinian men – lift their shirts to expose their upper torsos on orders of IDF soldiers. The link between the different shooting locations elicits thoughts about the relationship between politics and aesthetics, striving to introduce an alternative to the existing power relations. The voluntary body exposure typifying the shirt models designed by the artist supplants the body exposure forced at the checkpoint, allowing a position of defiance rather than humiliation.
