Sabich, 2007, video, 4 min
The video features the artist in his studio, performing the prosaic act of preparing Sabich. The preparation of the Israeli street food is expropriated from context with its displacement from the street to the studio, and as the Sabich grows to monstrous dimensions, forcing the artist to move actively in the space and transforming the act of preparation into body art. With purposeful gestures the artist dances around the large surface, dripping, pouring, splattering, and spreading the colorful ingredients of the dish. Every action is transformed in the video into a painterly act, constructing an abstract composition with local foodstuffs that are bound, like all food, to be consumed.
