Still Life, 2001, video, 3:44 min
Sam Taylor-Wood, 1998 Turner Prize finalist and one of the celebrated YBAs (Young British Artists), is known mainly for photographs and video works with strong portrait-emotional emphasis, featuring professional actors and celebrities. In the unusual piece Still Life she focuses on a bowl of fruit decaying at an accelerated rate. The film is set in a black frame, as if it were a classical still life painting in the vanitas tradition, bearing the symbolical meaning of memento mori.
