The sculptures of Reuven Israel remind us of objects. His work corresponds with design identifying with it to the degree that we believe we see a piece of furniture or some other functional object. Many of his objects possess a functional attribute: rotation, slide, transformation, yet they are not functional in themselves. The pseudo-designed sculptures carry a dialogue with sculptural Minimalism, but negate it with their decorative nature. In the composition exhibited here: a rectangular cube of a man’s height turnes on its axis, yellow board simulating the movement of radar, and an elevated surface putting us back in the physical position of a child.
