Nicola Costantino manufactures clothing items made of human skin-like silicone. The “skin” is combined with patterns of fine castings of men’s nipples, human hair and body orifices.
While Costantino’s work shows the fascination of the fashion world, it also criticizes uninhibited consumerism, which she perceives as a kind of cannibalism. The preoccupation with skin and flesh is part of a critical discourse that characterizes an entire generation of artists influenced by contemporary post-feminist theories.
