Collection of the artist
Etti Abergel’s installation – a cascade of empty, multilayered vessels – follows directly upon the series of works she created between 2009 and 2011. In this work, the artist began with a series of round glass jars, which she then enveloped in consecutive layers of silk paper, masking tape, and aluminum foil. The exterior layer is composed of paper mâché made of silk paper and various types of glue. When this process was completed, the artist tore open the layers of wrapping in order to extricate the jars. All that remains is a series of empty vessels that bear witness to the objects that (did or did not) shape them, while their scarred texture underscores their fragility.
