The Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art’s galleries are currently dedicated to an exploration of the notion of art residency. The prevalence of art residency programs in the
last decade has made them a central phenomenon on the contemporary global art scene and an integral part of the contemporary artist’s life. This calls for reflection on them
as cultural markers of the age of globalization and on their underlying mechanisms and characteristics. One may enquire in what ways these programs contribute to global tendencies. One of their favorable aspects may be that they offer artists an opportunity for a protracted encounter with an “other” which, in turn, may generate self-reflexive contemplation from different cultural perspectives.
The exhibitions are composed of independent projects by the artists, which are all related to the artistic journeys they have taken as artists-in-residence.
