In a moving self-portrait, Ariela Plotkin undresses in the video Miracles – My 2005. Plotkin’s charisma is her genre. She is happy and tough, sad and facile, seductive and clumsy, suspicious and naked, heavy and funny. Plotkin presents herself as a garage pin-up girl when she takes off her clothes at a sexy, slow pace, recharging the prevalent image with outgoing presence and humor.
While naked, Plotkin the diva seduces the camera. Like a projection of a pin-up figure, her nudity in motion is duplicated onto tiny screens of the “mosaic” channel specifying the available TV programs. In the wall projection Plotkin’s portrait is, at once, a poster, an icon, self-documentation in video, a video-clip, a television broadcast, and a computer screen. As in a silent movie, the screening speed presents Plotkin moving in a sequence of pictures. What starts out as a self-portrait with a lighting fixture, transforms into a striptease that splits into a vibrating screensaver of sorts.
