The show consists of a body of works in color, glass and metal that evade clear definition as painting or sculpture, containing a discussion of the status of painting, the status of the object, and the boundaries of diffusion between artistic mediums. The objects attest to an act performed in the studio – peeling color streaks off a nylon surface – and its shifting into a display space. Color exuviae that becomes a sculptural object.
The works originate from a desire to nullify the objects, yet realize themselves as a living creature existing on the borderline. On the one hand – a surface-less painting that strives to materialize a modernist utopia, to shift from the world of matter to that of ideas; on the other hand – an object.
The installation is site-specific, yet each object stands in its own right, turning, being watched, marking, as part of an unrealized space.
