In Stability, 2013, kinetic installation, mixed media
Aharon Ozery and Roee Ozeri’s installation examines the movement of magnetic fields and the states of instability, or conflict, created when these fields come into contact with metals. In doing so, it also studies the aesthetic structures produced in this process of natural interaction, and probes the possibility of synthesis between art and science.

The installation is composed of six large oval trays suspended from the ceiling, which are loaded with iron powder. When they are activated by a mechanical system, the trays pass over an arrangement of magnetic bricks. The magnetic field of the bricks destabilizes the homogeneous structure of the powder in each tray, transforming it into spikes reminiscent of bristled fur.
States of instability in nature are a fascinating phenomenon. They occur suddenly, and often violently, when two elements in a state of equilibrium no longer balance each other out due to an increase in the force of one element. This work centers on states of metamorphosis and on the conflict created by sudden contact between different materials, such as the spikes formed by the powder or the endless pendulum movement disturbed by the magnetic forces.
