TV CHANNEL is an independent producer of public broadcasts, a laboratory for experimental television, a community media action and a mobile cultural center. Its studio, which was located at the Herzliya city center, broadcasted images, film, sound and text 24 hours a day during the biennial week. Live broadcasts included encounters with guests and residents, work processes, performances and moments in life. It operated as an information center, a stream of images, a screen saver, a transmitted exhibition space and a generator of urban public space.
The channel offers a new look on television and on the political and creative potential of mass media. It gives shape to the questions ‘what is TV?’ or ‘what can TV become?’
The work is proposed as a model for a new nationwide TV channel. TV CHANNEL (2004-5) was founded at the Slade School of Fine art, London (www.tvch.org).
