The installation Me consists of three monitors, on which the artist is seen performing various activities while dressed in a traditional chador. Many of the activities she chooses to engage in emphasize the difficulties imposed on women who must wear this long black garment. She presents absurd situations such as sunbathing, swimming, skiing or “dancing like Michael Jackson” in a chador’ thus transforming her own fully clad body into a comical motif. As a native Iranian now living in the West, Ghazel critiques the condition of women caught between traditional Muslim society and modern society with both humor and empathy.
