A giant red beacon takes over the museum wall; its thundering silence and spiral motion continue to reverberate, reflected on the remaining three walls around it. Entering the space, the viewer is confronted by the warning lights surrounding him, triggering an immediate response.
Maya Schindler uses the well-known universal image associated with times of trouble, calamity and distress. She isolates it from its familiar context, presenting it in an unusual manner. The monumental enlargement, the silence that takes the place of the siren sounds, the museum context and the endless loop transform the beacon into an abstract, new and independent image.
