A thousand knots to one storm, 2012, Graphite on squared paper

In this exhibition, Efrat Klipshtien presents graphite drawings of sailboats on squared paper. According to the set of rules she established for this work, she chooses online images of boats with sails whose patterns can be assimilated into the squared pattern of the paper. As a result, each sail appears within a “frame,” while the boat’s body exceeds the limits of the square. In these works, the artist confronts the romantic aura associated with adventurous journeys with the act of drawing on squared paper, which originates in repetitive scribbles born during moments of boredom.
