These fragments each represent a frozen moment. The ones included in this work, which have been reconfigured into flat rectangular formats resembling abstract paintings, were taken from a wall used for a previous exhibition. They capture a specific moment in the museum’s history, and constitute an archeology of the museum space. Having served to create three-dimensional architectural spaces, these fragments are transformed into flat, two-dimensional structures. Rasgado’s “paintings” point back to their original function as walls, while revealing curatorial decisions and exhibition design strategies – the choice of specific colors, of vinyl or photographic murals for the walls, and of specific fonts for the wall labels. These details consciously or unconsciously present the museum as an a-temporal, permanent space outside the sphere of everyday life. Rasgado’s tautological, humorous compositions deconstruct this illusion, revealing the museum to be an ephemeral, dynamic space subject to constant change.
