Immunity Necklace, 2013, mixed media installation
Mishli’s Immunity Necklace derives its name from the reality show Survivor in which participants get to wear a tribal necklace symbolizing their victory (and immunity from elimination) once they reach an advanced stage in the competition. The geometric persons and animals depicted in this necklace are not easy to decode. Their hierarchy and role in that fictional society are not clear either. Nevertheless, we instinctively feel that this magnificent jewel of immense proportions tells us a story of a mysterious, unknown society. It is as fake as the reality show which inspired it and yet just as fascinating in its inner logic because of the manner in which it combines various cultural elements. Mishli’s work speaks to our senses, calling upon us to immerse in a world of fantasy, imagination, color and joy.
