Apfal (Remains) is an expressive work made of remains of fabrics, pieces of plywood, sponges and other found materials creating an autobiographical statue which signifies the artist’s memories of home.

Ostensibly, this is a patchwork of pieces randomly put together to form a geometric object, yet the careful planning of fitting and harmonizing the pieces together is clearly apparent. The structure of this work straddles the boundary between randomness and temporariness on the one hand, and permanence and stability on the other. The torn fabrics seem to represent their past and convey a sense of domesticity, softness and warmth all wrapped up and condensed into a bundle.
The artwork expresses the compulsive human urge to collect, hoard and charge the daily objects which surround us with significance. The multiple layers, the pressure and load of the fabrics on the framework which seem to sink the work into the museum floor are a metaphor for dowries, the material inheritances and the tangible remains accumulated and handed down over generations.
