At the heart of Miri Segal’s exhibition lies a new and essentially experimental project: Crushed Spirits: Exercises in Continental Philosophy. Surrounding it is a selection of her previous works, from 1998 to the present, which interact with it in various ways and offer keys to Segal’s artistic language as it has crystallized over the past twenty years. Segal’s works use a variety of media – including video, light and text, treated objects, and photographic and computer-manipulated imagery. They also involve a variety of sensory and physical manipulations, physical illusions, word games and an enticing technological experience – all in a bid to put into question our “natural” viewpoint and to present it as something pre-structured. Segal’s works reflect her interest in philosophical questions about existence, technological ethics, and economic-political regimes.
